Vil Bakirov addressed those present, “This event is festive, important and very sad. What we would like least is to open memorial plaques to our fallen alumni. But unfortunately, we have to do it. In particular, Ihor Tolmachov did everything he could to protect the state, Kharkiv, us and the University in challenging times.”

For his part, Mykhailo Cherniak shared his memories of the events of 2014-2015 and stressed the importance of the event: “Today, we honor those graduates who gave their lives during those years to protect our independence, statehood, our region. This was a principled position when everyone participated in the preservation of Kharkiv region at a crucial and important moment.”

Ihor Tolmachov studied at the School of Physics and Technology of Karazin University. He worked as a research fellow at the National Science Center “Kharkiv Physical and Technical Institute”. In 1997, he continued his work in the field of transport and forwarding services. He worked as the Executive Director of the research and production LLC “Vuhlets”.

He died on February 22, 2015, from a terrorist explosion, leading a peaceful march of citizens on the occasion of the first anniversary of the victory of Kharkiv Euromaidan.

The bas-relief was installed on the building of the School of Physics and Technology of the University, located at 31 Kurchatov Ave.

At the end, those present laid flowers at the bas-relief composition and shared memories of the researcher.
